Fairview Manor Volunteer Program
Fairview Manor, which is home to 100 residents requiring long-term care, offers a variety of
volunteer opportunities for individuals looking for a way to make a contribution to their
As a volunteer, you can visit with residents, read to them and write letters for them.
You can porter residents to meals and other activities, help them during exercise programs
and with personal tasks. You can also work in the Tuck Shop or take the Tuck Shop cart
around to residents. Volunteers also help with a variety of recreational programs,
including bingo, spa activities, horse races, outings, parties, card games and pub nights.
Other volunteer activities include carrying on a guided conversation with a resident to
improve his or her speech or helping with speech exercises.
If you have a special craft or skill, such as gardening, knitting or art, you can share
your knowledge with residents. If you play a musical instrument, you can entertain
residents. If you are affiliated with a church group, you may wish to organize a Bible
study or similar meeting for residents.
Some volunteers spend time with residents who suffer from Alzheimer Disease and related
dementias. These volunteers help residents at sing-alongs and other activities and visit
Many volunteers participate in fundraising activities, such as bake sales and raffles, or
help decorate the Manor for special occasions.
If you prefer a clerical role, you can help organize and maintain resource binders for
resident care, organize and maintain photo albums of Manor activities, work on the computer
and perform other office tasks.
Everyone who volunteers at the Manor is given the appropriate orientation and training to
carry out their duties.
