Physiotherapy Services

Area residents recovering from injuries and those who want to maintain their mobility have access to a complete range of physiotherapy services at the Almonte General Hospital (AGH).

The AGH physiotherapy department provides services to outpatients, to inpatients and to clients in the AGH Day Hospital program and Rosamond complex continuing care unit.

Physiotherapists provide preventative and therapeutic services aimed at restoring function and preventing disability arising from disease, trauma or injury. The clinic is staffed by one full-time and four part-time physiotherapists, a kinesiologist and by an aide/receptionist.

Apart from musculoskeletal and neurological injuries, the physiotherapy department at AGH also treats workplace-related injuries and injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents. Day Hospital and complex continuing care patients undergo physiotherapy in order to maintain their abilities or regain mobility after suffering a stroke or other illness. The department’s kinesiologist designs, implements and manages work conditioning and exercise programs for patients.

At AGH, both public and private physiotherapy services are provided. In 1998, AGH signed an agreement with Canadian Back Institute (CBI Health) to partner in providing physiotherapy services. Equipment for the clinic was upgraded to include sequence-training machines, such as a leg press, tricep machine and lifting station, enabling the kinesiologist to assess how well a patient can lift items.

When patients contact AGH for physiotherapy, they can choose either private or public services. Those who have private insurance are encouraged to use it, in order to free up spaces for those without insurance.

All new patients are triaged and if they need treatment on an urgent basis they get it right away, either public or private. In less urgent cases, there is a waiting list for those opting for public service.
